All these preparations are different!
Going through a job interview is not the same exercise as defending your Master's thesis, your PhD, or presenting for a position in front of a panel of peers, and you need to prepare for each specifically. However, these preparations share common essentials:
- Analysis of the situation and your current skills in relation to the objective
- Work on the content (the support) as it impacts the delivery...
- Work on the delivery (phrasing, tone, speed, elocution, etc.).
- Autonomy.
Let's explore in depth the benefits of a 1 on 1 coaching
Preparing for public speaking can vary depending on the context. Presenting your thesis or attending a job interview are different exercises, even though they share a common foundation. There will be specific nuances in both content and delivery.
We can address more targeted issues as needed, adapting to each student's unique situation and challenges.
However, be aware that you might think you only need support with confidence, but the real issue could lie elsewhere, such as mastery of the subject or difficulty in presenting it or talking about yourself. In the context of a job interview, a strong CV and well-crafted cover letter are useless if you can't present yourself effectively during the interview. The coach's role is to anticipate future problems and define the necessary work to achieve your goal of getting hired.
On the day of an exam, oral presentation, or thesis defense, it is essential to prepare effectively at all levels to present your work with confidence and mastery. Building self-confidence is a crucial prerequisite that we work on in parallel. Good content poorly presented won't have the necessary impact. Oral presentations are often poorly prepared or left to chance, sometimes even prepared at the last minute. However, good preparation and presentation will inevitably give you an advantage when professors are listening to and questioning dozens of students.
When entering the workforce, many young professionals struggle with companies seeking ultra-specialists at all levels, where personality and presentation play increasingly important roles.
On the day of a job interview, to have all the advantages on your side, it's important to present yourself confidently, highlight relevant aspects of your personality for the position, and discuss a clear and coherent professional project. These parameters will differentiate candidates.
Support and Preparation for Admission and Job Interviews
Many students are not prepared to search for a job, present a CV correctly, send applications, be proactive in their job search strategies, diversify them, or present themselves ideally during an interview to showcase their strengths. I support you in these areas.
Going into an interview unprepared is not a good idea ;)
The stakes are high. The problem isn't just feeling uncomfortable or stressed; that's inevitable, and interviewers understand it. The real issue is the relevance of your discourse and the coherence of your project. Demonstrating your motivation and revealing your personality effectively is essential. Once your presentation is well-prepared, we can concretely work on managing your stress.
The challenge is to present yourself clearly and concisely, explain your professional project relevantly, and demonstrate your motivation concretely. Generic, shallow phrases won't set you apart, especially if your application isn't flawless.
Admission interviews and job interviews are similar exercises. In both cases, you need to present yourself, explain your background and project, and demonstrate your motivation and interest in the school, program, company, or position.
This support, aimed at your autonomy, will be useful for your entrance interviews to prestigious schools and future job interviews.
Please note, I can't promise you'll never feel stage fright, stress, or anxiety before an interview. Even the most experienced performers feel nervous before going on stage. What I can promise is to provide you with the tools to manage your stage fright, stress, and anxiety, to prevent your discomfort from showing, and to help you present yourself ideally, feeling more at ease and relaxed because you'll master this exercise.
So, how will we work exactly? It will depend on each person's level of mastery.
Preferably, start with a well-constructed CV and a well-written cover letter, as these will be the basis of your presentation.
We will use filmed simulations, after completing the preparatory work, as this is the most effective method for concrete and rapid progress in identifying areas for improvement.
The video sequences will be reviewed and debriefed.
Concretely, and depending on your request, I can help you to:
- Prepare for an interview,
- Approach your interviews calmly,
- Work on your presentation to show your best profile,
- Improve the image you project to your interlocutor,
- Demonstrate your motivation and interest in the position or school,
- Feel comfortable discussing compensation at the right moment during a job interview.
Support and Preparation for Oral Presentations
You will all face this: defending and presenting projects, theses, and end-of-study presentations. Preparing for an oral presentation, whether it's a one-off talk, project defense, or end-of-study thesis presentation, requires thorough preparation.
I won't repeat what I mentioned earlier, as you'll understand that it would be redundant. The exercises are similar, except in one case you present and explain your project, and in the other, you present and defend your work.
Again, the work will depend on your personal goals and your level of mastery of this exercise, both in terms of the type of support you use during the oral and all other elements that need improvement.
Without a specific problem to focus on, we will define your current level and the level you need to achieve.
I tend to consider work on 4 levels (this also applies to interview preparations):
- The support
- The content: mastery of the subject, fluidity, relevance, etc.
- The delivery: image, tone, gestures, etc.
- Concentration and your ability to maintain it
We will define custom exercises tailored to your needs so you can continue improving between sessions.
We will plan regular simulations, if necessary, during and outside our working sessions. Using video is, in my opinion, essential for progressing in oral presentations, interviews, or public speaking in general.
